Health Implications Tribal governments play a key role in influencing eating and activity behaviors. Getting tribal leaders to formally commit to improving food and physical activity environments can help to ensure that the environments where people live, work, and play are conducive to healthful eating and activity. Additionally, when tribal government and other government entities demonstrate leadership for creating policy and organizational practice changes, it can encourage other community institutions, organizations, and businesses to follow suit. Proper nutrition and physical activity are linked to a reduced risk of numerous chronic diseases such as diabetes and heart disease.
