Health Implications Local government plays a key role in ensuring access to healthy food and safe places for physical activity in the community. Getting local legislators to formally commit to improving nutrition and physical activity environments can help to ensure that the environments where people live, work, and play are conducive to healthful eating and activity. Proper nutrition and physical activity are linked to a reduced risk of numerous chronic diseases such as diabetes and heart disease.
