The Politics of Preemption:
How should advocates handle preemption in public health policy debates?
Friday, November 20, 2009, 11-12:30 (PST)
Strategic Alliance for Healthy Food and Activity Environments is pleased to invite you to its upcoming webforum on preemption and public health policy. This event will bring together key prevention advocates with experience evaluating and negotiating preemption during public health policy battles.
Drawing on participants’ shared wisdom and experience, the webforum will discuss:
• The pros and cons of preemption
• How to develop a preemption strategy and build consensus
• Potential criteria to evaluate preemption language
This webforum will serve as a venue for advocates to discuss whether to accept preemption at all; if so, when to accept it; and how to negotiate preemption. Following the webforum, Strategic Alliance will prepare a memo synthesizing the webforum discussion that reflects participants’ knowledge and perspectives.
