Muscles That Tire Quickly During Exercise: What Can You Do To Relieve It?

The muscle is one of the most active components of the body. They are responsible for movement. Without the muscles, basic body movements like smiling, walking or even throwing a ball would not be possible. If the muscles in the body shut down, the entire body system would collapse.

When you begin an exercise routine, your muscles seem to be fine and work well with you. But after some time, when you must have done about 20 reps or after you must have lifted a dumbbell for a long time, your muscles begin to feel weak and tired. Which type of muscle tires quickly during exercise?

Before you can determine which muscle in the body gets tired during exercise, you have to know the different muscles and their functions in the body.

The Muscle System

The muscle system consists of about 650 muscles. These muscles are divided into two; the involuntary and the voluntary muscles. The voluntary muscles are muscles that we can control consciously. They involve basic body movements that you have control over; turning a book, blinking, getting up from the bed in the morning.

The involuntary muscles are the muscles that function without our control. Some involuntary muscles are breathing, food digestion, heart beating.

There are three types of muscles. Some of these muscles are voluntary and others are involuntary muscles. The three muscles are:

Skeletal muscles

These are the muscles that are attached to the bones of your skeleton, skin and fascia. Each skeletal muscle has a connective tissue called the tendon; which is responsible for attaching a bone to a muscle. Because you have control of your skeletal muscles, it is known as a voluntary muscle.

The skeletal muscles are responsible for the movement of the bones. Because these muscles are almost always being used, they react quickly. One other known fact about the skeletal muscles is that they also tire quickly. They are called striated muscles because they appear banded or striated. The skeletal muscles are involved in the control of the movement of the limbs, the trunks, the eyeballs and jaws.

Smooth Muscle – Do Smooth Muscles Tire Quickly?

This is the muscle that is located in the internal organs; in the stomach, intestines or blood vessels. Smooth muscles are involuntary muscles because their actions are not consciously controlled by you. They occur automatically. Smooth muscles differ from skeletal muscles even in appearance.

Do smooth muscles tire quickly? No, they do not tire quickly nor do they react quickly. The reaction of the smooth muscles depends on the demand of the organ it works on. The smooth muscle is responsible for digestion, the transportation of urine from the kidney to the bladder, blood pressure and flow.

Cardiac Muscles

These are muscles that are found in the heart. They are involuntary muscles. They never stop functioning. Cardiac muscles are also striated. The cardiac muscles never get tired. The cardiac muscle getting tired or stopping can lead to death (the cardiac muscles are always contracting; this is what is known as the heartbeat).

Why Do Skeletal Muscles Have to Work in Pairs?

Why do skeletal muscles have to work in pairs? The skeletal muscles work in pairs because the muscles contract and do not extend. When one muscle contracts, the other muscle in the pair relaxes to its original resting position. Once a muscle contracts, it becomes thicker and stronger.

Look at the arm, for example, the upper arm contracts for the elbow to bend. When the biceps on the upper arm contract, the triceps at the back of the arm relaxes back to the original position. The same process happens for the legs.

Functions of the Muscles

  1. To stabilize the joints
  2. To produce heat which is useful for temperature regulation.
  3. It aids in the digestion of food substances and in the distribution of said food to organs that require it.
  4. Helps make body movement possible.
  5. The diaphragm is a muscle that helps to make us breathe. For sir to enter your lungs, the diaphragm has to contract and pull downward. Air is pushed out of the lungs when the diaphragm relaxes and lifts upward.
  6. Muscle contraction increases blood flow by squeezing the blood vessels.

Muscle Fatigue During Exercise

Which type of muscle tires quickly during exercise? The skeletal muscle is the only muscle in the muscle system that gets tired quickly. The muscles require exercise to maintain strength and flexibility. For muscles to get stronger and wider you need to exercise them regularly. This exercise helps to break down smaller muscles and builds up to bigger, more resilient ones.

After strenuous exercise, your muscle activity decreases, making you exhausted. During muscle fatigue, the ability of the skeletal muscles to control movement decreases, leaving you tired and weak. Muscle fatigue can affect any part of the body. Some of the signs that your muscles are tired include; weakness, trembling, shaky hands and knees, soreness, shortness of breath, muscle cramps.

What to Do to Prevent and Relieve Muscle Fatigue

  1. Stretch your muscles before you begin a strenuous exercise. When most athletes want to begin a workout routine, you will notice them stretching their muscles; either by walking, doing warm-ups or other stretching exercises. This is because these stretches help to loosen up the muscles and causes flexibility. Doing more strenuous exercises would be easier once your muscles are loose.
  2. When you begin to feel exhausted from exercising, rest. Take a few minutes to catch your breath and massage your tense muscles. This helps to prevent injury.
  3. Ensure to keep your body hydrated by drinking enough water before, during and after exercising. Also, a healthy diet is essential when exercising because the muscles make use of glucose to provide energy.
  4. The hot and cold system can also help you relieve discomfort from the weakness you get from exercise.

Which type of muscle tires quickly during exercise? The skeletal muscles are one of the three muscles in the muscle system. They are responsible for body movement and they get tired quickly. The skeletal muscle is responsible for walking, running, writing, sitting down and standing up from a chair, talking and even smiling. Anyone would be tired if they have to handle this all at this. When muscles are injured, they become smaller and weaker, for this reason, it is advisable to take precautionary measures when exercising to avoid injuries.
